Book/Art Project: In a Vulture’s Shadow by Kevin Wikse

For the past two years, I’ve meticulously crafted a semi-fictionalized account of my tenure as an “operating consultant” in the American Southwest and parts of Northern Mexico, along the fractious US/Mexico border during the dawn of the 2024 border crisis. Requests came for me to delay or withhold the book’s release, and I agreed, though not without reluctance.

Bloodied, gritty, and disheveled, “In a Vulture’s Shadow” chronicles my harrowing real-life encounters with Curanderismo, Brujería, Narco-Saint veneration, Necromancy, and Vampirism, along with my initiations into these dark arts. The narrative spans the rough, unforgiving landscapes of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. Unflinching portrayals of authentic black magic rituals saturate its pages, depicting the conjuration of the dead, communion with spirits, and transformations of both the astral and etheric bodies.

The novel does not shy away from the grim fates of human traffickers and pedophiles, whose ends are met by “wrathful hands,” be they mine or another’s.

Rather than abandon my efforts, I will redirect them, weaving micro-stories unconcerned with linear chronology, while contributing to the advancement of AI art. This is my new path.
