7 Chief Loa: General Ogun Balendjo

Maferefun General Ogun Balendjo!

General Ogun Balendjo heads the marketplace and is one of the most loved and respected mysteries in all Vodou. Ogun Balendjo is a family man, married to Metres Ezili, and often accompanied by his sister Ofelia Balendjo. Ogun Balendjo is like a retired general now seeking a quiet life. But do not be fooled by this “softer” nature, Ogun Balendjo is a mighty warrior and more than a match for even the most powerful negative forces.

Ogun Balendjo hates injustice and slavery. However, he hates those who exploit the vulnerable even more. Ogun Balendjo leads the Nago nation, also known as the Ogun division, a spiritual army of warriors, eager to defeat evil. Not just a crusader, he is a great healer, and removes diseases, treating them like he would an invading army.

Ogun Balendjo’s feast day is July 25th. Green and red are his favorite color and enjoys drinking red wine, rum, and smoking cigars. A machete or sword with a green and red cloth tied on the handle gets presented to him. Consult Ogun Balendjo on all matters, but in particular, defeating enemies, overcoming obstacles, creating or finding jobs, healing and defending children.

Ogun Balendjo works close closely with Saint James of Matamoros, they share the same image.
