General Ogun Balendjo is one of the most loved and respected mysteries in all of Vodou. Ogun Balendjo is a family man, married to Metres Ezili and often accompanied by his sister Ofelia Balendjo. Ogun Balendjo is like a retired general now seeking a quiet life. But do not be fooled by this “softer” nature. Ogun Balendjo is a mighty warrior and more than a match for even the most powerful hostile forces.
Ogun Balendjo hates injustice and slavery. However, he hates those who exploit the vulnerable even more. Ogun Balendjo leads the Nago nation, also known as the Ogun division, a spiritual army of warriors eager to defeat evil. Not just a crusader, he is a great healer and removes diseases, treating them like he would an invading army.
Ogun Balendjo’s feast day is July 25th. A machete or sword with a blue and white cloth tied on the handle is presented to him. He enjoys drinking red wine, rum and smoking cigars. Consult Ogun Balendjo on all matters, notably defeating enemies, overcoming obstacles, creating or finding jobs, healing, and defending children.
Song For Ogun Balendjo
I am Ogun Balendjo
And I come from the Olives (tree, he has a sword but presents the olive branch first).
To shake hands with the sick
And to raise the fallen.
Ogun Balendjo works closely with Saint James of Matamoros on this earth plane.
Prayer for Saint James of Matamoros
Oh glorious Apostle, St. James, who by reason of thy fervent and generous heart wast chosen by Jesus to be a witness of His glory on Mount Tabor, and of His agony in Gethsemane;
Thou, whose very name is a symbol of warfare and victory: obtain for us strength and consolation in the unending warfare of this life, that, having constantly and generously followed Jesus, we may be victors in the strife and deserve to receive the victor’s crown in heaven.
